APPLE STUFFING

Description
Add zest to your traditional stuffing with apples & herbs. Great as side dish or stuff your turkey with it.

Ingredients
6-8 cooking apples, peeled, cored & cut into chunks
1 onion, coarsly chopped
2 Tbsp butter
1 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp Italian Seasonings
3 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 cup apple sauce, or 1/4 cup apple juice
1 package Stuffing, prepared according to directons (Pettridge Farms- recommended)
*optional- substitute apple juice or cidar for 1/2 the liquid in stuffing

Directions
Melt butter in heavy skillet or pot. Add apples, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and Italian Seasonings. Cook on med low heat until apples & onions are fork tender. Add apple sauce & brown sugar, stirring carefully until brown sugar dissolves. Meanwhile, prepare stuffing according to package directions, substituting apple juice if desired. Combine apple mixture with stuffing, careful not to break up apples. Stuff turkey just prior to roasting, or transfer to baking dish and cover with foil. Bake 350 F. oven for 20 min. Remove foil bake 10-15 min longer until lightly crisp & browned.
