Dawn of the Dead/The Devil's Arithmetic/Dangerous Beauty

Dawn of the Dead

Written and directed by George A. Romero and starring David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger, and Gaylen Ross, the same director that brought us Night of the Living Dead in 1968, now eleven years later, unleashes another shocking experience in Dawn of the Dead.  This time four survivors have barricaded themselves inside a shopping mall amidst a horde of zombies as they struggle to fight off the zombies before they lose their lives.  There's even a quote from the movie, "When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth."

The Devil's Arithmetic

Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman gives a powerful introduction based on a popular children's book that gives us a heartbreaking look as to why we must "never forget" the holocaust.  With powerful performances by Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Murphy, Mimi Rogers and Louise Fletcher, comes a disturbing story about the effects of the holocaust on an entire people and how it has affected the world.

The story begins with a typical sixteen-year-old girl, Hanna Stern, who ignores her family's heritage until one Passover Seder, when she is mysteriously taken back to German-occupied Poland to face the terrible plight of her people.  She sees the journey of life, death and the struggle to survive after being transported to a cold, dark concentration camp only to see with her own two eyes the horrors and the grim reality of her people's fate.  She bolsters everyone's spirits by telling them stories of the future, but soon must face a terrible sacrifice.  What she learns only draws her closer to her family's heritage and to her Aunt Eva.

Dangerous Beauty

From the producers of Legends of the Fall, comes a story about passion, seduction, and betrayal in a scandalous love story.  Catherine McCormack gives an enticing performance  as Veronica Franco, a woman who defiend convention in 16th-century Venice.  She is trained by her mother (Jacqueline Bisset) to be a courtesan to the rich and powerful men.  But she'll pay a price when it appears as she may have to give up the nobleman she loves (Rufus Sewell).  Will she stand alone when the Inquistion has her charged with witchcraft, or will she be reunited with the man she loves?  Recreated Italian setting of Renaissance Venice, this is a passionate redemptive romance that will fill your eyes with tears and tear your heart out.
