It's Complicated

Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin

A comedy about relationships--marriage, divorce and life after divorce.  Meryl Streep plays Jane, a divorced mother of three grown children and a successful bakery, when her life is turned upside-down after an innocent dinner with her ex-husband, Jake (Alec Baldwin), results in an affair.  To complicate matters is Jake's younger wife, Aggnes, and her budding friendship/romance with her architect, Adam (Steve Martin).  Jane is soon faced with the question other divorced couples may or may not have asked themselves, "could love be better the second time around?"

Streep is entertaining as she contemplates life with her ex-husband after a 10-year divorce, or a second chance at love with someone new.  Baldwin is the ever-charming, ex-husband trying to win back his ex-wife, despite already married to a younger woman.  And Martin is still as funny as ever as he discovers he is falling in love with Jane.  Perhaps the best performance is the relationship shown between Streep and the actors who play her three grown children and her soon-to-be-son-in-law.)  Writer-director Nancy Meyers delivers a splendid comedy about relationships--love, marriage, divorce--and everything else in between.
