Roger Howarth

Roger Howarth, an American actor, was born on September 13, 1968.  He is best known as Todd Manning on ABCs now-cancelled daytime serial, One Life to Live, and became an iconic fixture.  Leaving One Life to Live in 2003, he returned in May 2011; only to cross over to ABCs General Hospital in May 2013.  He is currently portraying Franco, previously played by James Franco.  Has guest-starred on Prey and Dawson's Creek and played Paul Ryan on CBSs As the World Turns.
EARLY LIFE
Howarth was born in Westchester County, New York, where his father was involved in theater and  wrote plays.  Exposed to theater at a tender age, Howarth played in The Grand Duke at the age of 7.  He was active in his high school drama department were performed in various plays.  He also played soccer as a small child until he was 19; playing other countries for the US Puma Shoes National Soccer League.  Howarth initially tried to resist acting as a profession, and studied political science at George Washington University, but the acting bug won, and he dropped out after one semester, where he joined an acting program at Eugene Oneill Theatre Center in Connecticut.
CAREER
Howarth was discovered during a nationwide talent search, which led to being cast as Kent Winslow on ABCs daytime serial, Loving.  But the role was short-lived.  Originally a day-player role, Howarth was cast on ABCs One Life to Live as Todd Manning, making the character a successful and enduring character.  He portrayed Todd Manning on and off since 1992 and was strongly praised for the role, winning him an Daytime Emmy award.  Attempts to rehabilitate his rapist character, Todd Manning, after a female fan proclaimed, "Rape me, Todd! during a fan event, making Howarth uncomfortable.  Howarth left One Life to Live in 1995 after an unsuccessful pairing Todd with the woman Todd raped, Marty Saybrooke (Susan Haskell), pursuing other options.  Howarth returned shortly after, with Todd being portrayed more as a villain than a hero, that is, until the pairing of Todd with Blair Cramer (Kassie DePaiva), which enlightened fans and made the duo a supercouple.  During this time, Howarth combined daytime with primetime, playing the murderous Randall Lynch in the sci-fi series, Prey, for four episodes.  But in 1998, Howarth departed One Life to Live to pursue acting in Broadway and Hollywood.  His first Broadway debut was The White Rose.  He performed in other performances like Henry IV, Passions, You Touched Me, Mother Courage, and Orestes.  But his most prominent stage performance was James Goldman's Broadway production of The Lion in Winter, which opened on May 11, 1999 and closed May 30, 1999, where he also starred with Stockard Channing and Laurence Fishburne.
Howarth returned again to One Life to Live in 2000.  He appeared in Dawson's Creek as Professor Greg Hetson during a brief break from One Life to Live.  Deciding it was time to move on from the role of Todd Manning, Howarth signed with CBSs As the World Turns, taking over the role of Paul Ryan in July 2003.
On August 10, 2010, rumors flew that Howarth would be returning to One Life to Live around January 2011.  An April 4, 2011 report confirmed that Howarth was indeed returning to One Life to Live, but speculation abound whether he would play Todd Manning or another character connected to Todd Manning.  On May 11, 2011, Howarth made his onscreen airdate on One Life to Live.
After One Life to Live was cancelled on January 13, 2012, Howarth, along with co-stars, MIchael Easton (John McBain) and Kristen Alderson (Starr Manning) made their way to ABCs General Hospital as their One Life to Live characters.  But copyright issues with Prospect Park returned their characters back to One Life to Live and Prospect Park.  The three actors returned to General Hospital as new characters.  Howarth continued to play Todd Manning in Prospect Park's online version of One Life to Live.
On May 23, 2013, it was revealed that Howarth was portraying Franco, previously played by James Franco, making Howarth an official full contract player.  His One Life to Live co-stars Easton and Alderson, were revealed to be playing Dr. Silas Clay and Kiki Jerome, respectively.
