Shirley Temple Black: A Hollywood Legend





Born April 23, 1928 in Santa Monica, California, she was Hollywood’s sweetheart as the lovable child actress in such movies like Bright Eyes, The Little Colonel, Curly Top, Wee Willie Winkle, Heidi, A Little Princess, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, Fort Apache, and her own television shows, Shirley Temple’s Storybook and The Shirley Temple Show.  

She was married to john Agar from 1945 – 1950 and then to Charles Alden Black from 1950 – 2005 when he passed away.  She had three children:  Linda Susan Agar (1948), Charles Alden Black, Jr. (1952), and Lori Alden Black (1954).  

Temple-Black began here film career in 1932 at the tender age of three and rose to fame in 1934 specifically for her talent. Her child-like wholesome image capitalized into merchandise like dolls, dishes, and clothing.  When she became an adolescent, her Hollywood popularity declined and she disappeared from the film industry.

She was the 27th United States Ambassador to Czechslovakia from August 23, 1989 – July 12, 1992 under President George H. W. Bush, the 18th Chief of Protocol of the United states from July 1, 1976 – January 21, 1977 under President Gerald Ford; and the 9th United States Ambassador to Ghana from December 6, 1874 – July 13, 1976 under President Gerald Ford.

Shirley temple passed away of natural causes on February 10, 2014 at the age of 85.  She will be greatly missed and forever remembered!
