Idaho Cave Tour at Minnetonka Cave

Hiding within the vast and remote Caribou-Targhee National Forest is a limestone cave that's filled with otherworldly stalactites, stalagmites, and banded travertine.  Open for tours throughout the summer months, visiting the cave makes for a unique adventure that will definitely leave an impression.  Explore the many rooms of this geologic wonder when you embark on the cave tour.  It's an experience that definitely belongs on your bucket list, so make plans to visit Minnetonka Cave and see its bizarre beauty for yourself.
Hiding in St Charles Canyon just northwest of Bear Lake, Minnetonka Cave is one of Idaho's most extraordinary natural wonders.  This massive cave is filled with jaw-dropping formations, and you can see them all on the official canyon tour.
Offered every year from mid-June until Labor Day, the guided tour is a fantastic way to experience the cave's nine distinct room.  Despite being tucked away in such a remote region of eastern Idaho, this mind-blowing cavern sees about 20,000 visitors every year.
The Tour is just $8 for adults, $6 for children, and free for kids 5 and under.  They also offer discounts for families and large groups.  Keep in mind to bring a light jacket--yes, even in the height of summer--since the cave stays a chilly 40 degrees all year round.
During the 90-minute tour, visitors will learn about everything from the cave's history to how its unique formations came to be.  You'll also climb a lot of stairs (444 in all, twice), so come prepared for that!
As you traverse further into the cavern, you'll feel more and more as if you've been dropped onto a different planet.  Massive deposits of limestone, stalactites hanging from the ceilings, stalagmites rising from the ground--this incredible cave knows how to make an impression.
Be aware, cave visitors are asked to avoid wearing any sort of clothing item that has been worn or carried in any other cave or mine.  This is to combat the spread of White Nose Syndrome (a bat disease), which could be devastating for bats in Minnetonka Cave.
If you have yet to see the rugged beauty of Minnetonka Cave for yourself, you'll want to make this the summer that you do.  A whole world awaits at this Idaho natural wonder!
